about us

Tim Grace is the Founder and Principal of Hypothetical Labs, a consultancy that fuels startup growth.

Tim started Hype Labs to help startups build strategies, processes & teams to mature & thrive. Drawing from his experience as a product, marketing & operational leader at high-growth companies at various stages, Tim's approach is deeply hands-on and collaborative. He works with executive leadership and your product/growth teams crafting vision, experimental frameworks, go-to-market narratives and org structures/hiring plans. Engagements with Tim and Hype Labs deliver people, processes and products that support your ongoing growth long after your time together ends.

Prior to founding Hype Labs, Tim was Head of Product at Trunk Club, where he was an early team member and first product/growth hire. Initially, Tim lead all growth efforts across product and marketing and was influential in scaling the business, both through product innovation and channel optimization. Later, Tim built and led Trunk Club's product organization, driving development of their technology platform enabling personal stylists to deliver one-to-one experiences to guys at scale.

After Trunk Club's $350 million acquisition by Nordstrom, Tim joined The Tie Bar as VP eCommerce, where he led product, engineering and growth marketing in an effort to re-invent, then scale, a private equity-backed men's accessories business post-acquisition.

Tim has also held product and marketing leadership roles at marketing automation SaaS startup Signal (acquired by BrightTag) in addition to consumer marketplaces Cars.com & Apartments.com. Tim credits his time spent studying consumer behavior and their relationships with brands at Millward Brown as foundational to his success in crafting deeply satisfying online experiences.

You’ll generally find Tim running on Chicago’s Lakefront or noshing at one of it’s many fine dining establishments (which is the point of all the running). If not there, Tim is spending time at his family’s corn & soybean farm in central Illinois or caddying for his photographer wife as she captures Chicago's most breathtaking landscapes.
